About Mello Occupational Therapy
Why we started
Mello Occupational Therapy was originally called Hedland Occupational Therapy and was founded in Port Hedland, Western Australia, in response to a growing need for accessible, high-quality Occupational Therapy services in the region. Recognising the challenges faced by local participants, particularly long waitlists and limited availability, we set out to bridge the gap in care for our rural community.
From the beginning, our mission has been to deliver creative, person-centred, and effective Occupational Therapy support, with a strong focus on NDIS participants. We proudly operated in Port Hedland until the end of 2024, building trusted relationships and making a meaningful impact within the local community.
As life evolved, so did we. Hedland Occupational Therapy has since relocated to Perth and rebranded as Mello Occupational Therapy where we now provide services to the local community. No matter the location, our commitment remains the same; to empower individuals to achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life through tailored, evidence-based therapy.
About Us
Hi, I’m Simone D'Mello, the founder of Mello Occupational Therapy. I’m a qualified Occupational Therapist, graduating from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia in 2016. Since then, I’ve worked across a variety of settings—including aged care, occupational therapy in a maximum-security prison, and as part of several NDIS provider teams in both Melbourne and Perth. I also spent three rewarding years in Port Hedland starting at the local Health Campus before transitioning full time to Mello OT.
I started my own company because I deeply value transparency and collaboration with clients, families, and support teams. My aim is to create a service where people feel heard, respected, and supported every step of the way.
My areas of interest include:
- Assistive Technology
- Functional Capacity Assessments
- Capacity Building in Daily Tasks and Activities for people with Psychosocial Disabilities
- Sensory Processing in relation to Emotional Regulation and Attention and Concentration with primary school aged children.
At Mello Occupational Therapy, my mission is to empower individuals to live more independent, meaningful, and confident lives, by providing tailored, person-centred occupational therapy services that make a real difference.
